Welcome!

From our Chair.

Welcome to the AOTA Home and Community Health Special Interest Section (HCHSIS) webpage!

I am thrilled to lead this new outreach and service initiative for AOTA and our members. The HCHSIS standing committee comprises a dedicated group of professionals with diverse backgrounds in home and community practice, each offering unique insights and experiences that enhance our collaborative efforts. This special interest section also supports four Communities of Practice: Environmental Modification, Integrative Health, Pelvic Floor, and Mealtime Occupations. Together, we are committed to supporting YOU!

Your feedback and ideas are invaluable to us. If there is anything we can do to better serve you and meet your needs, please contact me at kelly.sajdak@aah.org. We truly believe that together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of the patients we serve.

OT Month Message from our Chair

Happy Occupational Therapy Month! Whether you’re celebrating with us at the 2026 AOTA INSPIRE Conference or connecting through CommunOT, I’m cheering you on.

As Chairperson of the Home and Community Health Special Interest Section (HCHSIS), I’m taking a moment to celebrate what makes our corner of the OT world so special: you—the members who show up, speak up, share resources, ask thoughtful questions, and keep home and community health practice moving forward.

Thank you for your engagement with the SIS. Every post you respond to, every idea you offer, every story you share, and every time you connect with a colleague here—those moments add up. They build community, spark new approaches, and remind us that none of us is doing this work alone.

I also want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our standing committee. Thank you for the dedication, creativity, and hours you volunteer—often behind the scenes—to keep HCHSIS active, relevant, and welcoming. Your time and talent make an enormous difference, and I’m deeply grateful for each of you.

During a month that celebrates occupational therapy, let’s also celebrate the impact we make—supporting people to do what matters most to them where life happens: in their homes, neighborhoods, and communities. The work can be complex, messy, and beautifully human… and it matters. It matters to our clients, to their families, and to the communities we serve.

Whether you’re attending INSPIRE, presenting, networking, learning something new, or simply taking a moment this month to reflect on why you chose OT—please know how much I appreciate you and how proud I am to serve alongside you.
Here’s to connection, creativity, and community care—this month and all year long—as we keep enriching lives through meaningful engagement. And if you’re at INSPIRE, I hope you leave with at least one new idea, one new connection, and one moment that reminds you why OT is the best!

With gratitude (and just a little conference excitement)
Kelly
